People's houses / Workers' Assembly Halls (Transnational serial nomination)

De Vooruit

De Vooruit binnenkort misschien Unesco Werelderfgoed

Denmark has launched a request to stimulate the People's Houses to join forces to go for world heritage status. The Danish initiators want to make an inventory of people's houses in order to get as many of them inscribed. The dossier will apparently be submitted in 2023.

"A total of twelve places in eight countries have been proposed to be included in the nomination." Uppsala Page

More information about upcoming world heritage proposal.

"Before Sweden (together with other countries) can submit a joint nomination, more studies must be done on how historical sites fit into the criteria. As the World Heritage Committee's Cultural Heritage Experts (ICOMOS) have a lot to do, it is progressing slowly (March 2021)."

Mentioned in the UNESCO description, which make up the 8 countries (including Sweden).

Chelsea Physic Garden (UK)
Hortus Botanicus Leiden (Netherlands)
Jardin des plantes in Paris (France)
Bartram's Garden (United States)
Kamay Botany Bay National Park (Australia)
Hakone National Park - Hakone-juku (Japan)
Table Mountain National Park (South Africa) *already inscribed under natural criteria

It will be interesting to see if any of the sites above are included on their respective Tentative Lists.

There's been some recent investment at the Kurnell component of Kamay Botany Bay National to commemorate 250 years of Cook's landing in 2020 but muted due to COVID and aboriginal sensibilities. Not sure there'll be an appetite to progress t-listing.

Olympiapark
"Nach den Sommerferien entscheidet Bayerns Ministerrat, ob er den Antrag an die Kultusministerkonferenz des Bundes weitergibt. Und dort wird dann ein nationales Ranking erstellt, andere Bundesländer haben ja auch was anzubieten. Das dauert also noch, bis allein hierzulande alle Vorschläge abgearbeitet sind. Und das ist längst noch nicht das Ende."

Rough translation: Bavarian government to review. Then pass onto national conference of culture ministeries to decide if this is added to the Tentative List of Germany. ICOMOS Germany is in favor.

I don't understand Ireland. They have their list which contains plenty of great additions idle for a decade. Instead of following up on great sites such as Dún Aonghasa and Clonmacnoise they simply reset the list and decide to start anew ....

It certainly is confusing, as you say Dún Aonghasa and Clonmacnoise are the stand out sites on the current list but they haven't pursued them. Also whilst I'm not 100% convinced on the Dublin tentative site, it is a surprise to see it dropped.

The Burren has just been sat on a tenattive list since 1992, it seems it can celebrate its 30th anniversay by being put back on the tentative list for another decade.
