Solivagant:
Historic Military Parade Grounds

Plus the Esplanade in George Town (Malaysia), mentioned in the comparative analysis of Singapore's Padang. Very similar (but George Town much better as a whole).

That has the potential to become quite a large list, Solivagant!

North American additions that come quickly to mind are Quebec City, with a parade ground in the Citadel, Rideau Canal, with a parade ground at Fort Henry, La Fortaleza, with parade grounds at its forts, and Yellowstone, with a parade ground at Fort Yellowstone. Presumably the San Antonio Missions could also be an addition; I haven't yet seen a reference to a parade ground at the Alamo, but with a military presence there for many years, the men would have had to muster somewhere.

This brings up another idea: could we add a connection for Changing of the Guards ceremonies? It looks like there may be several sites we can add from this list.

Historic Military Parade Grounds

How about Ayuthaya? There is a large empty area outside the wall of royal palace ruins called Sanam Chai or "Victory Field". In historical record there was a small royal hall built on the palace wall for the king to see military parades and drill practices on Victory Ground.

Areas with lifts and marked pistes for alpine skiing:

Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks
Pyrénées - Mont Perdu
Dolomites
Hallstatt-Dachstein

As I initially mentioned, Causses and Cévennes in France has some ski lifts and pistes at the "summit" of Mont Lozere. But I didn't include it because it's got to be pretty small; the lift ticket for a day is only 17 Euros (in France)! They also accommodate "kiters."

Now I'm confused what connection you really want. Ski Resort in a core zone, actual "high class" hotel with ski ramp nearby, seems rare. Ski lifts and ski pistes seem quite common. Quite sure that's how I entered the core zone at Pirin NP.

Well, I figured there could be many core zones with ski lifts and pistes, so I thought I'd fashion it as ski resort. But I don't have a definition of ski resorts myself. But Lake Louise and Gavarnie, but not Mont Lozere, have aura of ski resorts at least, seeing from their websites.

As to the Pirin NP WHS, I'm not sure if the ski lifts go through the core zone, but all pistes are within the buffer zone the last time I checked upon skiing there in winter 2017-18.

Pff. I think I caught up with you guys again (save for 1 or 2 still waiting in my mailbox). Let me know if I forgot one.

FYI - it was brought to my attention that the links for the connection groups such as WHS Hotspots from this page currently lead to a permission error. Am looking into it. It only involves the Connection group pages (so not the individual connections) and within those, only those with a blank space in their title.

Furthest distance apart:

Feel this connection needs some division. Papahanaumokuakea is a large area but most other listed are separate sites far apart. I think there is a connection for large sites already anyway? Routes de Santiago is also connected to each other by a point or isn't it inscribed that way?
