If I may be so bold as to chip in with how I would categorise Ireland's list:

The Historic City of Dublin - Urban landscape - Post-medieval European
Early Medieval Monastic Sites - Religious structure - Christian
Clonmacnoise - Religious structure - Christian
The Céide Fields and North West Mayo Boglands - Archaeological site - Prehistoric
Western Stone Forts - Secular structure - Military and Fortifications
The Royal Sites of Ireland - Cultural Landscape - Associative
The Burren - Mixed - Natural landscape - Karst landscapes and caves & Human Activity - Agriculture

Of course! Thanks. The Burren is the most complex one, they'll probably go for cultural landscape continuing for the cultural part.

Nigeria
Alok Ikom Stone Monoliths - Rock Art (the exact purpose of the monoliths is unknown so can't really be assigned to e.g burials, Religion etc etc. Is there any reason why "Rock Art" has to be on "living Rock"? There is a similarity with Tiya which has been assigned (somewhat unstatisfactorily) to Arch site Prehistoric)
Ancient Kano City Walls and Associated Sties – ("14km earthen wall ...11th century C onwards ....archaeological site of Dala Hills (first settlement of Kano), the large Kurmi Market and the 15th century Emir's Palace......The ancient Kano city walls and associated sites is a cultural landscape." But is it a CL??)
Arochkwu Long Juju Slave Route (Cave Temple Complex) - Religious Indigenous /Transport & Trade (I have just checked old Forum posts and I was looking for info about this site in Feb 2017 (and failing) when we tried to give it coordinates!! The basic aspect of an indigenous Temple is certain - "an ancient Cave Temple with a shrine to Ibn Ukpabi......" What is less certain is the Slave Route" aspect. ,,,, but, given the title, I guess we have to recognise it –even if our category isn't very appropriate!)
Benin Iya / Sungbo's Eredo – Miltiary & Fortif ("ancient earthworks.,,,walls of Benin...stretch out for 15km around the city.....Sungbo' s Eredo (built in 800-1000 AD) comprises 160km of fortifications").
Cross River – Korup – Takamanda (CRIKOT) NPs – Wildlife Flora /Wildlife Fauna (Crits ix, x – species & evolutionary processes ... "Pleistocene refugia"....Montane forest...."various lowland ecosystems including some of the highest-stature and most species-rich tropical rain forests on Earth as well as savannah habitat and montane forest at higher altitudes." How to choose? Have gone for the species. Nb check consisitency with Cameroon Korup transboundary)
Gashaki-Gumpti National Park –Wildlife Fauna/ Diverse ecosystems (Nigeria's "Highest peaks...savannah grassland and rugged, mountainous terrain....diverse fauna,,,over 100 mammal species including...largest population in Nigeria of chimpanzee")
Kwiambana and/or Ningi – Arch Site Sub Saharan Africa (A ruined settlement...ditch and rubble/mudblock wall... "Within the enclosed area are several well-preserved mud structures, and several level sites where buildings may once have stood.... The settlement, which appears to be ancient, was destroyed during the Fulani Jihad in the early 19th century")
Lake Chad Cultural Landscape (Mixed) – CL Continuing/ Wetlands
Niger Delta Mangroves –Wetland (I don't think the mention of "mangroves" justifies "Flora" – they are not identified as being "special"!)
Oban Hills / Korup - Natural Forest ("steep hills covered in rainforest. It is part of the Cross River National Park. It is an Important Bird Area, with over 350 bird species recorded". A subset of the Cross River entry above! Has been on T List since 1995 with Cross River added in 2020 and should have been removed??? Description is far less expansive and area covered is much smaller)
Ogbunike Caves (Mixed) – Wildlife Fauna / Religious Indigenous (A minor set of caves with bats and a local festival.....!!!)
Oke Idanre (Idanre Hill) – Urban Lscape African / Religious indigenous ("Owa's Palace, Shrines, Old Court, Belfry, Agboogun foot print....burial mounds and grounds.... "Yoruba ideology"..."Ogun festival" ... "The ancient settlement....has existed on the hill since antiquity"... Since emigration down hill in 1923")
Old Oyo - Arch site Sub Saharan (site of a large city deserted in about 1837 A.D....old palace... past water reservoir....200 ha area enclosed by a 7.5 km long wall. Two concentric outer walls with ditches, l 8 and 28 km long, enclose nearly 3,000 ha: one third of this is covered by the ruins of past mud buildings and one third by sherd scatters". Oyo Empire was from 7th – 19th C. So Arch site or Urban African?)
Surame Cultural Landscape - CL Relict (Ancient city...15th-16th C...abandoned around 1700...9kms area....dry stone monument....compared with e.g Gt Zimbabwe. So could be Arch site but Nigeria seems to intend pushing for CL ,,,presumably because of size of area and range of remains)

Norway
Islands of Jan Mayen and Bouvet (Mid-Atlantic Ridge) - Volcanic
Svalbard Archipelago (Mixed) – Insular/ Glaciers /Fauna / Human Activity – Transport and Trade (Natural Aspects – need to choose from among 3?! Cultural aspects - Whaling, Mining and contribution to history of Arctic exploration)
The Laponian Area - Tysfjord, the fjord of Hellemobotn and Rago (extn) CL Continuing ?? (Norway is emphasising the cultural aspect of this extension – "ancient cultural landscape and a living Lule Sami settlement...has many important cultural monuments from earlier settlement phases, representing appreciable cultural-historical values". But simply carry forward the existing categs (Agric, Glaciation) or add CL?)
The Lofoten islands (Mixed) – Marine & Coastal / XXXXX "unique qualities associated with its marine resources, geology, plant and animal life, cultural monuments and exiting scenery. The birdcliffs on Røst and Værøy are among the largest in the Nordic countries and have earned an international reputation." Cultural categ is a problem. Having been there the cod fishing villages/drying racks/red stilt houses etc are the most significant aspect – but which? "Agric" - only if extended its scope, "CL contin" - no hint of that, Urb Lscape post Med? Best would be a new "vernacular villages" Categ! )
Viking Mons & Sites- Vestfold Ship Burials and Hyllestad Quernstone Quarries – Burials / Mines ("Hyllestad Quemstone Quarries testify to the mass-production and bulk-trade which emerged in the Viking Age. Quarrying.....started in 8th C for ...local needs. Towards the end of the Viking Age, production was taken to industrial levels and this continued into the following centuries". "Mines", Factories/Ind" or even Trade & Transport/ we have elsewhere counted quarries as "mines", where not a CL, so I continue...)

Oman
al Dimaniyyat Islands Nature Reserve – Insular (or Coastal & Marine?) / Wildlife Fauna (9 islands for "turtle nesting beaches, natural scenery, coral reefs and birds)
Al Hallaniyyat Islands Proposed Nature Reserve - Insular (or Coastal & Marine?) / Wildlife Fauna (5 islands "birdlife, coral reefs (with associated species of fish) and marine turtles. The reserve has been designated an Important Bird Area because it supports seabird breeding colonies of red-billed tropicbirds, tropical shearwaters, masked boobies, Socotra cormorants, sooty gulls, and bridled and greater crested terns".)
Bar al Hakman Proposed Nature Reserve - Coastal & Marine (Peninsular ..."monotonous gravel plains, coastal and inland salt plains (sabkhas), large mudflats and some salt-water lagoons"...dunes... "five kinds of marine habitats"... "Fauna inc more turtles, birds, whales etc"- none is mentioned significantly)
Cultural Landscape of Bisya & Salut and its Archaeological Remains – CL Relict (arch sites from the Early Bronze to the Iron Age...include circular towers and cemeteries.... proposed as "a cultural landscape of an ancient oasis settlement".)
Ras al Had Turtle Reserve and the Heritage Site of Ras al Jinz (Mixed) – Natural Fauna / Coastal & Marine / Arch Site Nr East ("One of the most important nesting areas for green turtles in the Indian Ocean....has tidal mudflats, mangroves and coral reefs. The culture element includes remains of graves and settlements."..." this site testifies for human occupation, which extends from the Holocene to the Iron Age.")
Smahan's Mountain Nature Reserve – Natural Fauna ("one of last refuges for wild Arabian leopards....habitat of the endangered Nubian Ibex and Dhofar White-toothed Shrew. The steep limestone mountains have deep gorges and cliffs.")
The forts of Rostaq and al-Hazm – Milit & Forts

Next the rest of "N" – unless already taken??

Or go for the more simple Archeo Viking? (it's a criterion iii: to bear a unique or at least exceptional testimony to a cultural tradition or to a civilization which is living or which has disappeared;)

Certainly if every location across the transboundaries is of a different type then the categorization is going to get rather lengthy. For a single site we would probably highlight the burial .. But for multiple sites fold them all into the wider grouping...

Military/fortifications? It's about the walls in the end.

I think Nigeria knows they are not enough... So is trying to create something wider... Do we go with their aim even if we think it wrong?

Feels more Archeo Sub-Saharan then, instead of Cult landscape relict

A living market and an extant (and extensive) Emir's palace? Over 45 years since I was there... Most of the walls pulled down and I don't really remember the palace. . Have just looked it up on Wiki... they could almost go with it by itself!
