The country is a bit unpopular (the last pick here as well!), an I haven't been able to bring myself to visit it although it would be easy.
I'm rather a fan of Tunisia and it is a quick and easy place to tick off (especially for us Europeans).
The sites are pretty concentrated; Tunis, Carthage, El Jem and Sousse are very easy to pick off (could probably cover them in a weekend). Kairouan is an easy diversion from Sousse, and Dougga and Kerkauane are both straight forward day trips from Tunis.
It perhaps doesn't reach the heights of other north African countries, but is well worth a visit and the welcome was very friendly.
Above all, starting every meal with a plate of harissa and a baguette should be adopted worldwide.
