Sorry for the delay, just sent off asking for a tour on the 9th. Will let you know when I hear back.

Incidentally the 9th works well for me at the moment, so hopefully the Meltwaterfalls family may be able to run away from some Macaques alongside the rest of you.

Right just heard back:

Gibraltar Neanderthal Caves and Environments:
The 9th is a Saturday, which is possible, but we'd need to pay for the guard on the gate (they don't work weekends or after hours) and would ask you to reimburse that cost (not sure how much but not a lot), and I need to check who is available to guide a tour. I know that at least three people are away, but I will check and get back to you. I don't suppose you could manage the Friday?

The other thing is that we may have to cancel at short notice – weather possibly or military requirements – of which, of course, we do not get advance notice and over which we have no control.

So just quickly, is the Friday an option for people? (I imagine no is the answer, but I have a touch of flexibility myself so perhaps could do it)

Also just to flag up that there is a chance of a last minute cancellation with no notice, so if we did want to go ahead then we should perhaps keep this in mind and perhaps have a contingency plan?

Friday the 8th would be an option for me too

8th seems okay. If I travel to Spain, it won't only be for a weekend. ;)

Go ahead with booking for the 8th, meltwaterfalls.

I'll take care of the inventory of who wants to come (or not, or maybe)....

Sounds good to me. We should dev have a plan b in case of last minute cancellation. I still have some unvisited WHS in the region. To my shame, the Alhambra is one of them.

Ick same for me, I even had a group of friends at the University there so feel somewhat embarrassed by its current omission form my visited list. We are hoping to tack a visit on some side of the trip, also the Antequera Dolmens should be simple to pick up if we were in the area, Úbeda and Baeza may be a little to far for us to crow bar in though.

I haven't heard back form the museum yet, but they may be having a busy time preparing the landing grounds for invasion fleets if the weekend views of some UK Politician's are to be believed :)

I would rather not spend more than a single vacation day on this. My plan would be to fly to Malaga Thursday evening and make my way to La Linea de Conception by night. Friday Caveman and Community.

Saturday day trip to Ceuta and from there to Tetouan (any joiners?).

Sunday to Malaga and Antequera (any drivers?). Flight back Sunday afternoon (15:00h)/early morning from Malaga.

Sounds very good, nfmungard! Is Tetouan doable in a day?

Oh hadn't thought of that. It seems taxis take 45 mins from Cetua and an hour from Tangiers so it seems doable to me, (will now head off and check immunisation recommendations though).

Good idea, hadn't thought of that, too. I've visited all WHS in Andalusia last year, so that sounds very good and I would like to join.

I knew about the site because the one time I visited Tangers from Gibraltar I missed it.

Ferries Algeciras <-> Ceuta
Early: 7:30 - 8:30
Late: 18:00 - 19:00

Getting through the border shouldn't take more than an hour both ways. With a driver 40km should be feasible in an hour. Ample time by my account. And Ceuta could be fun, too. More detailed planning to follow.

I have to add Antequerra, but otherwise in the same situation. On top, always prefer to add the first site for a country to mark I have been. ;)

I plan to visit Tetouan (so, I'm in for nfmungard's day trip), Antequera, Alhambra and Úbeda and Baeza. As always, I will rent a car.
