I am starting to think the European Paper Mills (Poland, Czechia, Germany) nomination and Jamaica's "Sunken City of Port Royal" will not be submitted by the February 2023 deadline. There seems little indication they are on track and both are complex nominations.

It also seems likely that Portugal's nomination "Vila Viçosa" will be renamed at the very least or perhaps delayed because of the change of criteria to the nomination. - Article October 2022

If "Vila Viçosa" is delayed, "Levadas da Madeira" may take its place.

"The "Levadas da Madeira" application for World Heritage status is being prepared by the Regional Government of Madeira, through the Regional Secretariat for the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change (SRAAC), based on the rules established by UNESCO and following the application form. nomination of the Goods to the Heritage of Humanity. In February 2022, the first version of the Candidacy of the Levadas of Madeira for World Cultural Heritage was delivered by SRAAC to the National Commission of UNESCO." - Article October 2022

Ambodifotatra Catholic Church of Sainte Marie (Madagascar)

We are discussing its chances at the Madagascar topic as well. Despite the enthusiastic news reports from Madagascar, they still may have a long way to go as their request for funding to create a proposal was not approved. The Bradt Guide to Madagascar (461 pages) devotes only 1 sentence to the church.

Phuphrabat Historical Park (Thailand)

CONFIRMED The selection committee endorsed to renominate Phuphrabat for 2024WHC. The committee will ask the government to approve the nomination early next year before February deadline (however there is speculation that PM will dissolve parliament early next year, so hope this political move will not delay the plan)

Lisbon

I was so confused about this. It keeps talking about being added to the "indicative list", but the nomination has been on Portugal's Tentative List since 2017? At the same time we have had some doubts about Vila Viçosa, so perhaps this is actually being submitted?

The Lisbon City Council considers "fundamental" the inclusion of the area in the Indicative List of Portugal, which is periodically revised, so that "a future classification is possible, justified by the exceptionality of this historic area and its contributions to the history of humanity".

Having visited Pombaline Lisbon in 2018, I am certainly curious to see if this nomination progresses for 2024.

I think you may be right, winterkjm, in it being only an update of Portugal's tentative list. I overlooked the word National in the sentence about the unesco comission

There might be some unresolved issues in the spanish nomination. Apparently some agricultores now say the inscription would be too restrictive for their intrests.

Sunken City of Port Royal (Jamaica)

First update I have seen in a while that indicates a progressing dossier for Port Royale that may be submitted by early 2023.

The Hajj Pilgrimage Routes: The Darb Zubaydah (Iraq, Saudi Arabia)

Let's pencil this in for 2025:

"And about the date of the road being included on the World Heritage List, the researcher in heritage and history, Hussein Al-Shaibani, believes that, according to surveys and indications by the Saudi government, it is expected that the listing will take place with the next 2 years." Summer 2022 Article

This to me indicates 2024, but since the deadline is approaching we should know soon.
