So, this was probably already confirmed, but I heard at the radio news (
here, from 18:40; the RAI - Italian national broadcasting company - apparently is an active supporter of the candidature alongside the Ministry of Culture, supplying video- and photodocumentation) that all the documents for the
via Appia antica will be delivered to UNESCO in January.
They tell that 2 million euros have been spent on this candidature and that they have selected 22 sections both from the Claudian and the Trajan variants, so both in the inland and Ionian coast (Benevento, Venosa, Taranto) and along the Adriatic shore (Bari), down to Brindisi. Let's see... in Benevento, the branching point, for sure one can see a couple of bridges still standing, so I can imagine it will be part of the selection.
