Vila Viçosa, Renaissance Ducal Town (Portugal) - delayed until 2024

"the municipality should " try to change " what was requested, so that, in 2023, the council can " be in a position " to, with the National Commission of UNESCO, promote the candidacy of Vila Viçosa with " a more solid scientific base ".

European Paper Mills (Poland, Czechia, Germany)
- Paper Mill in Duszniki-Zdrój (2019)
- Paper Mill in Velké Losiny (2001)
- Paper Mill in Homburg (pending)

The nomination is expanding to include additional sites in Germany and perhaps in the near future Italy and Spain (possible later extensions). New TWHS would need to be submitted by relevant state parties if the serial nomination was expanded beyond Poland and Czechia. Germany's site in Homburg seems like an imminent addition to their tentative list. This could be aiming for 2024 or 2025 if everything goes well.

"In the case of this from Duszniki, the prepared application concerns the so-called serial entry - it is to cover not only the Polish facility, but also similar in selected European countries. The Museum team is in the process of developing documentation that will allow the preparation of the draft application. The completion of the works will, however, depend on the activity of foreign partners. We hope that the works will be completed by 2023 at the latest, explains the spokesman."

It's time for Rwanda to have a site inscribed, especially this one

For Spain's 2024 nomination, there seems to be 2 candidates.

Another attempt (after an evaluation of not inscribe in 2021) The Ribeira Sacra, Lugo and Orense and Priorat-Montsant-Siurana Mediterranean Mountain Agricultural Landscape.

Hikone-jo in Japan seems fairly certain as the nomination reaches its final stages and its criteria is quite different than Himeji-jo.

The Historical Port City of Izmir (Turkey) seems more and more certain to submit their file for 2024.

Not sold on Izmir as written in my review. I don't understand why the Turkish authorities wouldn't put forward stronger candidates (Urfa, Kaunos?).

Hikone is nice, especially the combination of castle and garden.
