Weird, isn't it? I notice that Italy has no nomination yet for 2022. Maybe they will try again with Sila or the Mediterranean Alps.
@Astraftis - have you heard anything?

No, unfortunately I don't have a clue and I haven't heard anything apart from the lately quite fanfared Tiber, but I think this will take much more time... and as we know too well, recently news are all about other things (new ordinances about the lockdown, in particular :-/ ).

I can just make a wild guess that they will choose something "ready-made" and surely noteworthy like the via Appia. If any, I'm just noticing the last years have seen some increased form of attention with regard to Civita di Bagnoregio, which sits on the list since 2017, so maybe...

- The Marquesas Islands (France)

Looks more likely that the nomination for France will be "Volcanic and Forest Areas of Martinique". As stated, "A request has been filed again for 2021, and for the moment the island would not have a French competitor in the running." Potential to win UNESCO Biosphere status and world heritage status in the same year.

Thailand - Si Thep Historical Park

Big Surprise! Thai Cabinet approved to submit Si Thep Historical Park as WHS within this year February deadline. The reason why government pick up Si Thep is its isolated location with no problem of buffer zone! So Chiang Mai and other sites need to wait further.

The volcanoes and forests of Mount Pelée and the Pitons in northern Martinique (France) has officially been submitted for 2022. Beating out the Marquesas Islands, if inscribed this would be the first French WHS in the Caribbean

Trans-Iranian Railway (Iran)

This one is already up for 2020, isn't it?

Not sure how/why this was passed on to 2022? I guess I just overlooked this!

I just posted new articles about these 2 shortlisted nominations

Perhaps an Iranian Shortlist of Developing Nominations

Persian Caravanserai [Article January 2021]

Vali-e Asr Street [Article December 2020]

Previously we identified nominations that may be active in preparing a nomination dossier.

Arasbaran Protected Area (Iran)
The Great Wall of Gorgan (Iran)
The Historical City of Masouleh (Iran)
The Historical City of Maybod (Iran)

So, at this point we are not sure what Iranian nomination will emerge for 2022. Probable that it will be one of these 6 TWHS or none at all?
