The language is San, a member of the Koisan family (earlier called Hottentotta).

Koisan langauages are the only ones in the world that originally had click sounds. (Except for one dubious case in a native Australian Aboriginal language.) In the Southern bantu languages - e.g. xhosa - click sounds are a secondary phenomeon. It"s supposed to be a result of the cohabitance with the Koisans.

A abovementioned letter stands for a palatal click. Makimg this sound the tongue is nearly flat, and is pulled back rather than down. In zulu/xhosa this sound is represented by letter C. So the closest you can pronunce hte name of the site - without using clicks - is something like tskhomani.

Clyde -- I'm checking in between flights, but it looks like The discussion for new wording for Khor Dubai appears to be happening offline. There appears to be enough support to overturn the ICOMOS recommendation to not inscribe.

Hurrah! Another tick!

Ahmadabad will be a real hotspot now as Rani-ki-Vav and Champaner are easy daytrips from there.

I missed the discussion on Ahmedabad - who was leading the push for inscription in this case?

Officially Turkey, but with a lot of co-drafters.
