kkanekahn:
Dholavira: A Harappan City' and 'Monuments and Forts of Deccan Sultanate have been submitted to UNESCO. The same is conveyed in Indian Parliament today.

They really can have only 1, the 2nd may have only been brought forward to see whether it passes the completeness check. It will not be considered that year.

A very confusing report about it here: https://www.eastmojo.com/assam/2020/03/03/assams-majuli-island-misses-out-on-world-heritage-site-tag-again

P.S.: it is stated that the Group of Monuments at Mandu had been submitted the year before, but I cannot find evidence for that either

This is the approach they are following from quite some time. They Submitted Delhi/Mumbai at one go, Similarly Jaipur/Ramappa in another go. By this, they can plan for one year in advance & reduce of incomplete submission.

The same was also said by the minister in the same speech. He told that 'in 2019' we had sent Mandu nomination for completeness check. It was found incomplete, hence we had sent back to state Government. not sure whether it is before Jan or After. But news article suggests its around Oct- Dec quarter of 2019.

Also I assume Sarnath has a similar fate that of Mandu.

So it may be that they have missed 1 Feb deadlines for both years, and that Mandu (and Sarnath as well?) is scrutinized this year (meant for 2021 inclusion, but incomplete) and the other 2 for 2022.

Question In case that WHC2020 has been postponed to late Q3 or Q4, do you think WHC2021 will be in June-July as usual? Can ICOMOS and IUCN evaluate the nominations for 2021 before WHC2020 adopt the nomination list? If they cannot do and WHC2021 will be in summer then it will be a very short time for them to review the nominations! I have a discussion with my friend who works for IUCN, and he mentioned that if covid-19 is continued until winter, high possible no new site to review for 2021!!

Durian

Definitely it will have repercussions on the timeline... Unless they stick with the original timeline ICOMOS, IUCN and the State Parties will have a very busy 2021.

Notably missing from this list are the 'Sites Associated with Memories of Recent Conflicts', such as the WWI memorials, the D-Day sites and Targu Jiu, which were postponed in 2018 and 2019 respectively to further evaluate the issues with these kind of sites "related to negative memories". That could mean 2 things:
- They will be discussed at the 2020 meeting, especially the WWI sites as they were postponed for 2 years in 2018
- There has been no decision yet on these kind of sites (will formally be taken at the 2020 session) and further nominations of this kind are not being taken into consideration at the moment and may have to wait until 2022

I was a little surprised these sites did not make it? We had quite a few indicators/reports that pointed to a complete nomination. I suppose 2022 or 2023.

Dirre Sheikh Hussein Religious, Cultural and Historical Site (Ethiopia)
Djerba Island (Tunisia)

Could they have had incomplete nomination dossiers?

P.S.: there is quite an active Facebook page on the Djerba nomination, I will write them a message to see whether they know

Received an answer from the Djerba guys: they got the response from the WHC that they have to make some additions and corrections to the nomination, especially related to the delimitation of certain elements of the property. They plan to revise the proposal and resubmit it in January 2021.
