State Parties with Multiple Nominations: 9

How come India can have only one and others two or more?

Frontiers of the Roman Empire – The Danube Limes (Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia)
Is this a new one or the extension to Frontiers of the Roman Empire, UK and Germany?

We've discussed this before on this Forum: it's a new one, the Frontiers are split into 3 (see this topic: https://www.worldheritagesite.org/forums/index.php?action=vthread&forum=10&topic=1758 &page=10#msg19075 )

India had 2 cultural ones, that is not allowed. Only 1 cultural plus 1 natural or cultural landscape (or 2 of the latter)

Thanks, Els! But on the previous page it is marked as extention...

Meaning Bom Jesus is being treated as a cultural landscape? Quite unclear if park area automatically upgrades you from a cultural building.

Don't know which page you mean, but we finally got to the bottom of it at the message of the link I just posted

Europe either cleverly navigates the world heritage process or manipulates loopholes. Depending on your point of view. When Europe is responsible for nearly every Cultural Landscape and Transnational nomination above in order to fill 2 or 3 nominations? Its difficult to not be at least a little cynical. We all know which countries will be "truly" limited to 1 nomination per year starting 2020? China, India, and Iran.

I think warwas may be referring to winterkjm's previous list here. I didn't want to jump in, just to note I hadn't clocked that this was a separate site and not an extension so thanks for asking the question warwas and the digging into it Els and Solivagant.

Key Works of Modern Architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright (USA) for 2019!

"We are planning to submit a revised nomination before the end of the calendar year. Since the nomination was "referred" it doesn't need the full evaluation given to new nominations and will be considered at the 2019 session of the Committee." - NPS Staff

That's an absolutely terrific news! I am not happy with USA dropping Price Tower, Bartlesville (which I consider outstanding), but I agree that Marin County Civic Center does not belong in that league, as Taliesin, Taliesin West or Fallingwater do. I am truly pleased that most of the originally proposed sites are still vying for inscription.

The 2019 vintage promises to be exceptional and exciting (Babylon, Plain of Jars, Bagan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Vatnajökull, Port Royal, Paraty...)

Paraty...

"Exciting"???? It was "ok" but not really world class - I suppose the "excitement" might be whether Brazil can manage to swing it this time - it needs to get the "Arab" grouping behind it. How has its foreign policy been recently?

Thanks for the update, winterkjm! I'm glad to see the Frank Lloyd Wright resubmission will be for 2019. Here's a link to an article from last November talking about the revised nomination the Frank Lloyd Wright World Heritage Council in coordination with ICOMOS officials was planning to submit.

2019 does indeed look like it will have a number of high caliber additions to the World Heritage Site list.
