News from the Great Spas of Europe nomination: 5 out of the 16 nominated locations have been crossed out, to improve the success rate of the serial nomination. They are: Wiesbaden and Bad Homburg (Germany), Bad Pyrmont, Bad Ischl (Österreich) and Luhacovice (Czech Rep.)

Still in the race: Baden-Baden, Bad Kissingen, Bad Ems (Germany), Vichy (France), Baden (Austria), Franzensbad, Karlsbad und Marienbad (all in Czech Rep) and Bath (England).

N.B.: wonder where Spa in Belgium has gone? There must be 2 locations more if they now have 11 serial sites.

Bad Pyrmont is also in Germany, not in Austria.

The intervening 4 months seems to have enabled the involved countries to agree the cuts back to 11!

NB The communique is talking of preparation of nomination file for Jan 2018 -i.e a slippage until the 2019 WHC!!!

The 2 additional ones are Spa (Belgium) and Montecatini Terme (Italy) - still a large group, with Bath already a WHS

Honestly, surprised that Bad Ischl was removed, as I always think of it being so important in the Golden Age of Vienna and its a bigger name than some of the others, but having never been I can't say much about its OUV. Carlsbad, Spa, Bath, Baden-Baden, Vichy seem like the no-brainers to me.
