Oh, do I understand well that they want to defer?

No fortunately not - Lebanon was praising ICOMOS for this time talking to the state parties in an intense manner. He ended by saying: "probably if they hadn't done this intense discussion, they would have suggested a differal"

And Portugal was mad because he thought he had the floor after Peru, but the Chairwoman then gave the floor to someone else.

Corvey - this increases the total number of WHS I'll be soon visiting in Central Germany to 7 :) It will make a great long weekend roadtrip from Brussels (all are around 4-6hrs from Brussels!).

We're back for today's session.

I wish for some more discussion then yesterday, real discussion among committee members and not just finding a way to get each other's sites in.

Silk Roads now - more joy to come for China

Japan is happy to have paid for part of its nomination (Kazak/Kyrgyz)

Other countries jumping in with their own Silk Road sites, there are nominations of more corridors to come. India is preparing a Spice Route.

Shahr i-Sokhta up next - ICOMOS proposed Deferral, but delegates (with spearhead Lebanon again) propose Inscription.

The delegates are now sharply criticising ICOMOS for not recognising the archaeological importance of the site (Quote Portugal: I'm an archaeologist too, and this site appears in all publications on the subject of early civilizations from the region). Croatia seems never to have talked so much, again to express surprise at ICOMOS's proposal.

I find the consensus among all delegates so amazing this year. Almost like they've met beforehand and developed a strategy.

Maybe it's due to the composition of the committee. Last year, Switzerland and Estonia (as far as I remember) would often take the side of ICOMOS. This year, the full committee is mostly against it (with a surprising number of delegates actually having read the documentation, apparently!)

and Shahr-i-Sokhta is now inscribed too. Iran is proving very succesful at inscribing new sites.
