The session restarts now.

I have a further 9 sites prepared that have been recommended for inscription. Who knows how many more will be added.

which ones are they, Els?

I had a gut feeling that this year would mark the 1000th site in the WHL :)

So happy for Myanmar and I sincerely hope that more Burmese sites will be inscribed in the future.

There's an agenda next to the livestream. The other Silk Road site is, I believe, up next, and then there's France's Chauvet cave, Israel's caves of Maresha and Bet-Guvrin, 2 Turkish sites, the US site of Poverty Point, Italy's Piemont vineyards, Russia's Bolgar again, and Costa Rica's sphere stones. And the Vietnam mixed site and all natural nominations after that...

and let's be fair here: does Corvey really add more to the WH List than eg the Pyu cities or Shahr-e-Sokhta

I agree entirely - and Corvey is another of my "ticks" this year too - but to quote from my review of last year "But does the list really need yet another example of Carolingian Architecture? It already has Aachen, Lorsch, Mustair and Reichenau. That is not to gainsay the historic significance of the Westwork but not everything which is "important" should become "Welterbe"."

I haven't yet heard the WHC discussion on the site - ICOMOS supported the OUV and wanted "referral" on technical matters. An example of getting it "wrong" in both direction I feel!
I have never yet heard a WHC object to the AB recommendation that OUV is present -only in the opposite direction!

It was indeed good to have the "expert" from Cambridge speaking to assist Myanmar on the OUV of Pyu cities amd really "overwhelming" ICOMOS's "anonymous" experts whoever they were. Also good that she was from UK so the concern that ICOMOS doesn't use "experts" belonging to the nominating culture was demonstrated to not be an absolute necessity!

Now up Silk Roads Penjikent-Samarkand- Poykent Corridor (Tajikistan/Uzbekistan)

I have visited some of the components, and I really hope it gets in. Chor Bakr and Naqshaband are excellent, and looked to me in quite good shape

Well - that is surprising. Kazakhstan (of course) took the floor in defence of the site, but recommends Referral instead of Deferral (and instead of Inscription).

Oh - Finland supports ICOMOS with Deferral.

The Honourable Chairperson doesn't really care about the discussion - she just wants to move on and hopes the Rapporteur can reconcile all what was said...

She didn't even know what was agreed "It is deferral right" ..... "no referral"

In fact it was referral WITH a mission.
ICOMOS seemed prepared (reluctantly and also feeling that it wasn't to the benefit of the nomination) to accept this as a compromise even though it felt both that a full mission was required AND a re-write of the "slim" Nom File! In previous years I have heard WHC dlelgates argue that "REferral" is a "poisened chalice"
