Realistically, when we actually have the official documents next year, it will probably not be 45 sites (too much workload). Secondly, we all should discover Japan's official nomination on Monday/Tuesday (I kept the previous candidate listed above for now). 2016 and 2017 have several iconic sites that really stand out:

Babylon & Ur, FLW & Le Corbusier, Gobeklitepe, Bagan, Nan Madol

- Paraty - Culture and Biodiversity (Brazil)
- Mole National Park (Ghana)

Any recent news about these nominations? India is also kind of a mystery because reports are so often innacurate.

Primeval Beech Forests [extension] (Albania

What would be the TWHS here (in both Albania and Austria)? I cannot find one to link.

Besides Belgium's Zonienwoud, most of the other countries aren't ready for a 2017 nomination yet so it seems

Any recent news about these nominations?

Re Paraty - The Committee responsible for preparing the nomination has a Facebook page.
This is a translation of a post made Jan 22 2015 - it appears that work is progressing at a rate which could be compatible with a nomination file presentation for Jan 2016 and consideration at the 2017 WHC - but this is not expressly stated
" Colleagues
"On January 20 we made the delivery to the President of IPHAN, Paraty's candidacy dossier to World Heritage. We thank all those who contributed in any way, either in the document content, the operational support of the document elaboration team, is participating in meetings or even those who encouraged us enjoying our page, or giving the statements in interviews. Like any collective effort, the result is gratifying and q uality.
The work of the Technical Committee will follow with details of Site Global Management Plan, which from the technical guidelines of the Committee, will be detailed during the year 2015.
Congratulations Paraty, in the words of Lucio Costa, is exceptional in the expression of his mixed territory with natural and cultural values, "where the ways of land and sea meet."

There was also this Q and A
"Q - Sorry, one other question: In which enrollment category was made? Cultural landscape?
A - Good morning! Happy Birthday! The Dossier will be available for reading or researchers only after approval? thank you!"

See https://www.facebook.com/patrimonioparaty
Might be worth "following" for possible further news??
PS.
Whilst I was searching for the above I came across this very recent (july 15) report about Paraty as "the second most violent city in the state of Rio de Janiero"
Amazing - it had seemed such a peaceful little town when we visited it some years ago!!!

Belgium probably is in the lead for the World War I-sites. And it does seem to prepare the extension of the Beech forests on its own (2nd site natural one).
Holland is in the lead for the Colonies
France may propose Metz and add Taputapuatea (Cult landscape?)

So it might just fit.

Umm el-Jimal (Jordan)

I would cross out this one too. We have been pushing this one forward since 2014, but there has been no news since that they are really getting ready. There's only a vague indication on the site's website that they are working on a nomination, but without a year mentioned

1) Sultanates of Comoros
2) Metallurgical sites of Burkina Faso
3) Sarmishsay (Uzbekistan)
4) Termiz (Uzbekistan)
5) Tana Toraja (Indonesia)

1) Sultanates of Comoros

The nearest I can get to any "official" information on this matter is in this site set up by the Comoran diaspora in Paris. It has various links to work being done in the Comores to document and preserve its "patrimoine".
Look at the news item dated Nov 3 2014 - mentions progress towards the preparation of a Nomination dossier but gives no targets!! I note also that the agenda of the organisation's "General Assembly" on 21 Feb 2015 doesn't contain an item related to the preparation of this dossier. Unfortunately, although we have a pdf of the agenda, we have nothing in the way of minutes!!

http://www.patrimoinecomores.org/

This organisation does seem to be a prime driver of such activity which may (or may not!!) be happening regarding nomination of a site by the Comores. see this 2011 conference report produced jointly with UNESCO. http://www.patrimoinecomores.org/IMG/pdf/110824_rapport_conference_alamal.pdf

2) Metallurgical sites of Burkina Faso

I have found details about 2 Workshops to discuss this matter
20-24 May 2013
November 2014.
Output of the first is available as are details of the "upcoming" Nov 2014 meeting (see link below for both) - but, as with the Comores meeting above held at around the same date, there is no record of any conclusions or actions arising - it is of course only 8 months since those meetings but it doesn't seem unreasonable to hope that some output would have been published!! The fact that it hasn't would seem to call into question any realistic hope that consideration at the 2017 WHC is a realistic possibility. After all - they only have 6 months left to complet and submit any nomination by end of Jan 2016!!

Durian:
"Okinoshima Island and Related Sites in Munakata Region" will be 2017 Japanese candidate for WHS.

Based on some of the news articles released today, they confirm Durian's initial report.
