Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria (1819-1901) was the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and the first Empress of India of the British Raj.

World Heritage Sites connected to 'Queen Victoria':

  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus WHS is officially titled "Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus)". It had been renamed in 1996.
  • Liverpool Statue of Queen Victoria riding side-saddle (1869) outside St Goerge's Hall. There is another of her holding Orb and Mace opposite the Law Courts.
  • Melaka and George Town "Queen Victoria Fountain" in Melaka
  • Québec Queen Victoria helped pay for "Kent Gate"/"Porte Kent" which provides a passageway through the city walls. It was built in 1878/9 during a major reconstruction of the fortifications. She did so in memory of her father Edward, Duke of Kent who lived in Quebec 1791-4.
  • St. George, Bermuda "Fort Victoria" is listed on the UNESCO Web site as location 983-017 (out of 24) despite this comment in the AB review "the integrity of Fort Victoria has been compromised by its conversion to a hotel recreation facility so that it no longer retains the authenticity necessary for inclusion on the World Heritage List"
  • Valetta Statue of Queen Victoria situated in"Republic Square"!
  • Victoria Falls Inscribed in 1989 as Victoria Falls/Mosi-oa-Tunya. Named after Queen Victoria by David Livingstone during his 1852-6 journey from the Upper Zambezi to its mouth. As of Oct 2009 the park in Zimbabwe within which the falls are isutated is still called "Victoria Falls NP" altohugh the equivalent park on the Zambian side is called "Mosi-oa-Tunya NP".
