If you plan on visiting this site make sure you have enough fuel and water, I travelled from Balranald to the Lakes and then to Mildura, around 500km nearly all dirt (or should i say rock) road.
That said, this is the place to visit to escape, and I mean escape. Visited January 2008 and had a 2400 square kilometre National Park which i only had to share with two other people and a bunch of kangaroos that must have wondered what the big guy with a video camera was doing in 45C (113F) heat actually standing in the sun. They, sensibly, hid in what shade was available.
The views from the top of the lunette at Lake Mungo are priceless, boardwalks are provided to give you the best view. Keep an eye out for signs of past habitation (easy to see if you know what to look for)   masayuki.h (Japan):
i was there in last Oct,starting from mildura nere the border of new south wales and victoria,i expected to the site because minor heritage's photo is limied in japan,anywhere do so i think.getting closer,ground became desert.
and i got there,mungo national park,part of willandra.there were nothing but
kulst ground.i took part in a tour with wine in afternoon to night,so great experience i got,drinking wine over red desert.
i recommend so much.
!attention!
only in the dry season[5~10]this tour goes.in the rainy season very little rain desturbe your visit.
