Ian (Canada):
The Sanxingdui Museum outside Chengdu is an absolutely amazing sight. It's almost totally unknown outside China, and the objects you see here are unlike anything else in the world. There are an amazing array of gold and bronze objects here, some of them huge, and the gold and bronze masks look like props from a sci-fi movie. It's even more amazing when you realize that this forgotten civilization is over 4,000 years old! Definitely worth the one-hour drive from Chengdu! The new Jinsha Museum of the same civilization has recently opened in Chengdu, and I'll definitely check it out next time I visit Chengdu
