Assif Am-David (Israel):
I would like to review two of the proposed sites in this serial nomination: Nazareth and Sepheris.
Nazareth is a typical Arab town (and the largest in Israel). Its centre is the old town all filled with bazar like market stands. Almost all churches in the centre are new (19th Century onwards) with two exception - the Synagogue church which was built by the Crusaders and a Gothic convent. Still the town has its own special atmosphere.
Nearby Sepheris, on the other side, is an ancient town from Roman times which is wonderfully preseved. You shouldn't miss its synagogue as well as some Roman mansions displaying beautiful rich mosaics. Date posted: May 2008
