Architecture Moderne du XX siècle de la Ville de Montevideo Assif Am-David

I found it extremely difficult to find out what is exactly meant to be included in this proposed nomination: the most obvious candidates - the Art Deco ensemble in the city centre for which Montevideo is known do not seem to be included. The only building explicitly mentioned in the description is the Hostpital de Clinicas, which is a rationalist concrete monster from the 50ies. Residences surrounding the Park Batllo y Ordonez are mentioned without naming the specific buildings.

Palace Cave Assif Am-David

The Palace Cave is a small cave with an exceptional formation looking like an open structure with multiple pillars. It is located about two and a half hours drive away from Montevideo in the vicinity of Chamanga TWHS. It is possible to visit on the way to Fray Bentos. After it got rejected as a WHS it successfully applied as a Unesco Geopark which also encompasses nearby Chamanga. When I was there I asked if this means Chamanga too is no longer aspiring an inscription, but I was told it still does.

L'oeuvre de l'ingénieur Eladio Dieste Assif Am-David

As I wrote in the forum, it still remains to be determined which ones of Dieste's works in Uruguay are going to be included in the nomination, but two of them are certain: Cristo Obrero church in Estacion Atlantida and San Pedro church in Durazno. During my last visit to Uruguay I visited the first of the two which is situated about 50 km away from Montevideo and quite close to Atlantida, which is a busy summer resort.

Quartier de Peñarol: la Vieille Ville historique et le paysage industriel ferroviaire Assif Am-David

Peñarol is mostly known as the national Uruguayan football club, but it takes its name from the historical railway quarter built by the Brits. It was there that the Brits established the national football club.

Peñarol is far from Montevideo city centre and is not frequented by any tourists at all. It consists of a small historical railway station which now operates as a museum. Moreover, you can book a free walking tour of the quarter or walk it on you own.

Fray Bentos Assif Am-David

When I first made up my mind to use my long holiday in Uruguay visiting my parents in law to visit Fray Bentos I couldn't resist the annoying thought of visiting a slaughterhouse as a vegetarian. It is still a part of culture and history, I told myself. Thankfully, however, Fray Bentos has a lot to it other than its indispensable share of death toll. The city is situated about 300 kms or four hours drive from Montevideo (the Uruguayan capital) and about the same distance from Buenos Aires.
