Hi Assif, just a quick comment on Azawad: is that really still relevant? I'm not sure they still control any significant part of the Malian territory (though I might be wrong, they haven't been in the news so much lately.

On the other hand, the abhorred Islamic State certainly controls a large territory, some WHS and some TLS. Maybe you could include it, as disgusting as it may be.

Now that Dominica submitted a new T-list our previous thoughts that the country has reached potential for inscribing sites has been countered. Dominica with only one current WHS should therefore be added to the list of missing countries.

Khuft:
Kosovo, in any case, already has a site (Medieval monuments of Kosovo), which however is listed under Serbia.

Assif:
Not in Unesco:

Liechtenstein, Kosovo, Northern Cyprus, Taiwan, Western Sahara, Transnistria, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Somaliland.

Looks like Kosovo will be in UNESCO by November, though Serbia will try to stop it.

Islamic State (one WHS several T-sites)

Wouldn't that be 3 sites? Palmyra, Hatra and Ashur? (Not sure they control Ashur, though apparently it was blown up too.)

I suggest a list of major cities not represented.

In fact what might be surprising perhaps is just how relatively few of the World's largest cities DO have WHS. There are many different lists by area, population, city proper, metropolitan area etc etc. I have taken this list from Wiki - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_proper_by_population
(There are some anomalies - I don't quite understand why Paris isn't on it but it is what it is!) and have done a quick assessment from memory (so there might be a few mistakes). On that basis - only 27 of the 85 most populated cities have a WHS. I guess that a lot of the World's largest cities have just grown from very little in recent years or have destroyed much of what was there. Some are in countries like Nigeria, Ivory coast etc which are not really "in" to going for WHS but a lot are in China -I guess that China has a lot of other places to go for first! Some are on T Lists (e.g Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Tokyo etc) but I can't think of much in e.g Lagos that might justify inscription!

1 Shanghai
2 Karachi
3 Beijing 1

I got it the wrong way round didn't I - I ticked Ho Chi Min when I should have ticked Hanoi - for some reason I always get those 2 mixed up - I am of a generation when Ho Chi Min City was Saigon!

Solivagant good work. Perhaps we should distinguish the cities that have a property-exclusively and explicitly on their territory (like Paris) of cities like Tokyo, for example, where only one component of a series is proposed on tentative list (Le Corbusier). In New York, the name "New York" is not even mentioned in the title alongside the Statue of Liberty. Same for Seoul which is not explicitly mentioned but which has several properties on its territory.

Solivagant:
I don't quite understand why Paris isn't on it but it is what it is!

I think this list only covers the population according to the administrative definition of the city according to local law.
E.g. Paris the official city (=the department) has 2.2 million inhabitants; Paris the metropolitan area has around 12 mn people.
In contrast, the Greater London administrative area has 8.6 mn inhabitants; London the metropolitan area has around 13 mn people. (all according to Wikipedia). So London makes the cut, Paris doesn't, even though both metropolises have approx. the same size.
