At this point, its pretty well established that any report on Indian dossiers are no sure thing. However, this nomination sounds more specific than normal, perhaps it will come to fruition.

UPDATE : Espace transfrontalier Marittime-Mercantour (Les Alpes de la Mer) France/Italy with Hanbury botanical gardens

its official website announces date of nomination to be February 2017. Also the nominated area will include the famous Hanbury botanical gardens, another Italian tentative site.

Espace transfrontalier Marittime-Mercantour (Les Alpes de la Mer)

What is significant about this site? I'm struggling to see it. I don't really see how the Botanical Gardens enhance the natural values that much.

Is its OUV "like already inscribed bits of the Alps, but a bit closer to the sea!"*
*Now with added Botanical Gardens!

Also the entirety of Monaco is in the buffer zone, I would have thought they would have tried to lasso in some random garden in the Principality to the full boundaries just to give extra kudos of a new country to this proposal.

Still it is good to see some of the vastly over-represented countries banding together to put forward some already represented landscapes in the middle of a heavily over represented area.

Anyway I'm off to book a holiday to Nice just to tick this one off :)

Just to show I am not just a grizzly curmudgeon, this is actually a really promising looking propossal. Even better if they do actually just submit one site for the year.

^Yep. Unfortunately, back than, we had no knowledge of a tentative list so of course we skipped that one when visiting Andalucia...

On the other hand, we did see the Antequera dolmens site during that holiday. Not because of its WHS potential but probably because we had read somewhere that it was worth to visit. Too bad they didn't say anything about the dolmens though... (Would have loved to see them because I'm really fascinated about these kind of megaliths. Still gonna count the site as "visited" though if it gets its inscription in a few months)

The nomination presented by Italy for 2018 session should be "Ivrea, industrial city of the 20th century", as said here: https://www.comune.ivrea.to.it/index.php/scopri-ivrea/progetti-di-valorizzazione-del- territorio/architetture-olivettiane-candidatura-unesco.html (in Italian).
"Salento and the Barocco Leccese" will be probably delayed to 2019.
