- Sambor Prei Kuk (Cambodia)
- The Archaeological Site of Gobeklitepe (Turkey)
- Ruin of M'banza Kongo (Angola)
- Dirre Sheikh Hussein (Ethiopia)
- Holqa Sof Umar (Ethiopia)
- Mole National Park (Ghana)
- The Sacred Complex of Babylon (Iraq)
- Bathyz Grassland ecosystem (Turkmenistan)
- Orheiul Vechi Archaeological Landscape (Moldova)
- Aphrodisias (Turkey)
- Paraty (Brazil)

I think these sites are probably reasonable additions for 2017, but perhaps lets wait a bit for more news after the WHC. I think the Plain of Jars nomination has been wishful thinking, its been pretty silent about any nomination in the last year or so.

Italy plans to nominate Palmonova and Venetian fortification in 2017. Don't know what happen with Ivrea!

winterkjm:
- The Venetian Works of Defence between 15th and 17th centuries (Serial Transnational)

This nomination could be led by another country (Croatia or Montenegro) which would allow Italy to nominate two further sites.
winterkjm:
Primeval Beech Forests (extension)

This extension could similarly be led by some other country.
winterkjm:
Great Spas of Europe (pushed to 2018?)

This nomination is led by Germany.

This would allow Italy to nominate four sites in 2017:

1) The Venetian fortifications (led by Croatia/Montenegro)
2) The beech forests - extension (led by Albania/Austria/Bulgaria/Croatia/Poland/Romania/Slovenia/Spain/Ukraine)
3) The great spas of Europe (led by Germany)
4) an additional independent cultural site

Italy would still have to choose between Palmanova and Ivrea, as both are cultural nominations and neither is proposed as a cultural landscape.

Palmanova and Bergamo are part of the Venetian Works of Defense nomination (both older tentative nominations).

Sometimes I suspect, Italy is trying to maintain its place on the list as the country with the most WHS. I hope Italy does NOT attempt to bring 4 cultural nominations to one WHC, if so they should receive the proper and appropriate backlash from the entire world heritage committee. Three nominations by one state party is already bad enough, its just bad form when you already got 40+ world heritage sites AND struggle to protect your current inscribed WHS.
Assif:
1) The Venetian fortifications (led by Croatia/Montenegro)
2) The beech forests - extension (led by Albania/Austria/Bulgaria/Croatia/Poland/Romania/Slovenia/Spain/Ukraine)
3) The great spas of Europe (led by Germany)

The Venitian Works of Defense are all but guaranteed to be led by Italy, they were the first to add this nomination to their tentative list. Does anyone have any further info on the Great Spas of Europe nomination, it had been mentioned that problems with the scope of the components between the countries involved will perhaps delay this nomination?

"The National Heritage Board has in fact decided that this will be the only Italian nomination for 2016" - (Not sure if this applies for the Primeval Beech Forest Extension?)

I am sure this 2017 List will be narrowed down a bit and tweaked over time, but as it stands now, all of these sites are candidates that might very well make the deadline for the 2017 WHC. I removed Jibla and its Surroundings (Yemen), in light of the recent unrest there, it seems highly unlikely a nomination will be submitted for 2017. Even though the Archaeological Site of Aphrodisias (Turkey) was submitted for 2016 as incomplete, there just doesn't seem to be any evidence of this archeological site taking priority over Gobeklitepe. Unless I am mistaken neither are cultural landscapes, therefore only 1 is eligible for 2017, no? On a side note Japan's nominations, Mozu-Furuichi Kofungun is certainly a front runner, but it will not be 100% confirmed until July as the sole candidate for 2017.

Gulangyu official cultural nomination for 2017. Liangzhu Archaeological Site and other sites did not get enough votes by experts.

The Emergence of Modern Humans (South Africa)
https://www.westerncape.gov.za/news/western-cape-government-nominates-sites-unesco-wo rld-heritage-status
This site has been suggested for 2016 at the forum, but the way I understand the article, the nomination is going to be submitted in 2016 for discussion in 2017.

winterkjm:
Frontiers of the Roman Empire [extension] (Netherlands)

Considering the new T entries shouldn't we expect this to be another transnational nomination (Serbia, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Slovakia)?

Japanese Newspapers reported that "Okinoshima Island and Related Sites in Munakata Region" will be 2017 Japanese candidate for WHS.

If true, Kyushu Island hits a jackpot again for 3 consecutive years from Meiji Sites, Nagasaki Churches and Okinoshima!

Durian:

The wording is a bit unclear, its seems the announcement would be bigger. Interesting choice if this is the official selection.
