The United Mexican States, or commonly Mexico, is a country located in North America. It is bounded on the north by the United States; on the south and west by the North Pacific Ocean; on the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and on the east by the Gulf of Mexico. The United Mexican States comprise a constitutional republican federation of thirty-one states and a federal district, the capital Mexico City, which is one of the most populous cities on Earth.

Mexico's heritage, as reflected in its entries on the Worldheritage List, consists of a lot of impressive remains of the native inhabitants of this area: the Aztec, Toltec, Zapotec and many other groups. On top of this came the beautiful cities that were built by the Spanish colonizers, and which can be seen all over Latin-America.

During my visit in 1997 I mainly went to the archeological sites in the south. Besides the ones on the list, the jungle-site of Yaxchilan is also worth mentioning. I know there's a lot more to Mexico than that, but I wasn't too enthusiastic about this trip. So I postpone a second visit ...
