History of this website

The World Heritage Site website exists since April 1997. It started out as a simple, personal homepage. Just to experiment a little with the medium. The content was in Dutch at the time.

Soon I noticed that a static webpage isn't interesting to maintain (or to view). So I had to go out and visit more and more WHS, to be able to update the website regularly. The contents were translated into English then also - because that would attract more visitors to the website.

That assumption turned out to be true: the website kept expanding year after year, not in the least because of the reactions of other WHS enthusiasts. Since 2002 users of the website can also contribute their stories about WHS they've visited. and since 2004 there is a frequent Newsletter.
